David Wilcoxen was born in Washington, DC, but grew up abroad with his mother, who was a U.S. State Department Foreign Service employee of 33 years posted at various U.S. Embassies all over the world. He lived at different times in Bogota, Colombia (South America), Kinshasa, Zaire (Now called the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Africa), and Manila, Philippines.

He became very fascinated with wildlife, particularly big cats, after going on several safaris in Kenya, and getting to pet a full grown cheetah in South Africa. For these reasons he especially loves to illustrate them. He currently supports and does art work on denim jackets for the Cheetah Conservation Fund - www.cheetah.org

He went to high school in Charlottesville, VA. Shortly after graduating he joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Pensacola, FL and in the San Francisco, CA bay area.

He has always liked to draw and paint, so after he got out of the Navy he went on to pursue his dream of becoming a commercial artist. He moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he received an Associates Degree in Advertising Art at The Art Center Design College.

It is there that he first started using an airbrush and loved the effects one could get with it. He uses Iwata Eclipse airbrushes and Createx airbrush paint.

Here are pictures of places David traveled to that inspired him with his art.
